On World Water Day, charity: water launched Unshaken, a campaign to help Haiti recover by funding long-term safe water projects. Publishers With a Purpose is committed to funding one of them. 100% of donations directly fund water projects.

The solution proposed by our local partners to help Nan Simon is a spring protection with tap stands. Springs are usually found in mountainous areas and are formed as aquifers break the earth’s surface. They can be excellent sources of drinking water, but if left unprotected, they are easily contaminated. A concrete spring box will be built around the source, shielding it from parasites and debris.

After the spring is covered and protected, the water is piped to a holding tank – sand chambers inside make sure the water is crystal clear on the way out. Gravity then takes the safe water down the mountain to community tap stands below.

After the project is complete, the recipients will receive comprehensive hygiene and sanitation education. The community has agreed to donate time and labor to construct the project. To keep the water clean and improve hygiene, they’ll also build household latrines, BioSand filters, laundry stations, handwashing faucets and animal troughs.
