Heal the Bay: Keeping SoCal’s beaches healthy

Buy the Bay is a collaborative effort to help preserve the beach we love.

Working with some of their favorite artists, designers, writers and musicians, they are transforming precious beach experiences into tangible objects that you can own or give to someone else. These beautifully crafted items reflect the things everyone cherishes most about the beach, and are available to own or share as a gift. All of the proceeds directly benefit Heal the Bay’s efforts toward keeping Santa Monica Bay safe, healthy and clean for all to enjoy.

Gift Card Giver: Unused gift cards to people in need

We guess you have at least $5 of unused gift cards right now.  What’s 5 bucks going to buy you?  Maybe a pair of socks…but 10 people giving 5 bucks will buy a kid a winter coat, or 1000 people giving $5 may give that same kid a warm bedroom to sleep in through the night.

Gift Card Giver is a new form of giving. They collect and distribute the cards to appropriate Non-Profit Organizations that can use those cards to help others. CHARITY: WATER’S 2010 SEPTEMBER CAMPAIGN

september_logocharity: water was born in September. Each year for charity: water’s birthday, they team up with September babies and other supporters to take on something really big. This year’s September Campaign will bring clean and safe drinking water to the Bayaka people in Central African Republic – one of the poorest and most remote countries in the world. Their goal is to raise $1.7 million with the help of individual fundraisers. 100% of the money raised will directly fund sustainable water projects. (more…)

Oxfam America: Major Earthquake in Haiti

logoTuesday evening a major earthquake struck Haiti near the capital of Port-au-Prince causing catastrophic destruction in the western hemisphere’s most impoverished nation. At least 2 million people have been affected. Oxfam has 200 staff on-the-ground responding with public health, water, and sanitation services to prevent the spread of disease.

Housing Works: Fighting AIDS and Homelessness

Since our founding in 1990, we have provided lifesaving services, such as housing, medical and mental health care, meals, job training, drug treatment, HIV prevention education, and social support to more than 20,000 homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS.
